GuardIQ — Free School Safety Intelligence for Public Schools, Private Schools & Colleges
Check the Safety of Any School, Private School, or College in America — Free, No Account Required
GuardIQ is a free school safety intelligence tool built by Omega Security LLC, an SBA Certified Veteran-Owned Small Business headquartered in Daphne, Alabama. It lets parents, school administrators, safety officers, school board members, and college students instantly look up real FBI crime data and federal school profile information for any public school, private school, or college and university in the United States — and generates a clear 0–100 risk score in seconds. No account. No subscription. No paywall.
GuardIQ is the only free tool that searches public K-12 schools, private K-12 schools, and colleges and universities in one place — combining FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data with federal enrollment and campus data to generate an actionable safety risk score for any institution in America.
Three Institution Types — One Free Tool
GuardIQ searches three separate federal databases depending on the type of institution you are looking for:
- Public K-12 Schools — Searches the NCES Common Core of Data (CCD), the U.S. Department of Education's database of over 100,000 public elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide. Includes enrollment, grade level, district, county, address, and location coordinates.
- Private K-12 Schools — Searches the NCES Private School Survey (PSS), which tracks over 35,000 private schools in the United States including Catholic schools, Christian schools, Jewish schools, secular private academies, and other independent schools that participate in the federal survey.
- Colleges and Universities — Searches the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard database, which includes over 6,000 accredited colleges, universities, community colleges, trade schools, and graduate institutions nationwide. Includes campus location, student enrollment size, and institutional type.
What GuardIQ Shows You
- FBI area violent crime rate — assault, robbery, rape, homicide — for the institution's state
- FBI area property crime rate — burglary, larceny, vehicle theft — for the institution's state
- School or campus profile — enrollment, grade level or institution type, district, county, zip code
- GuardIQ Risk Index — 0 to 100 composite score rated Low, Moderate, High, or Critical
- Risk dimension bars — crime exposure, enrollment density, institution type, grade level factors
- Campus location map — OpenStreetMap pin for the institution's verified federal coordinates
- Nearby campuses — other schools and institutions within 10km for area comparison
- Emergency protocols — lockdown procedures, 911 integration, anonymous tip line, incident reporting
- Safety recommendations — actionable next steps based on the institution's risk profile
City Search Filter — Find Schools in a Specific City
GuardIQ includes a city search filter that lets you narrow results to a specific city and state. Type the school or college name in the main search bar, then enter the city (or "City, ST" format such as "Daphne, AL") in the city filter bar. The search will return only institutions in that city, eliminating results from other states or cities with similar school names. This is especially useful for common school names that appear in multiple states.
How the GuardIQ Risk Score Is Calculated
The GuardIQ Risk Index is a composite score from 0 to 100. It combines the state-level FBI violent crime rate (weighted most heavily), enrollment or student body size (larger institutions introduce more exposure variables), institution type (elementary, middle, high school, private, college), and grade or degree level. The final score maps to four risk tiers: Low (0–39), Moderate (40–59), High (60–79), and Critical (80–100). The score is a planning and awareness tool — not a prediction of specific incidents — and is updated as new FBI UCR data becomes available.
GuardIQ for Private Schools
GuardIQ searches the NCES Private School Survey, a federal survey administered by the U.S. Department of Education that collects data from private schools across the United States. The PSS includes Catholic schools, Christian academies, Jewish day schools, Montessori schools, military schools, and other independent K-12 institutions. To search for a private school, select the "Private K-12" tab in GuardIQ before searching. Enter the school name and optionally filter by city and state to find the right campus. Area crime context from the FBI UCR applies to private schools the same way it applies to public schools.
Note: The NCES PSS is survey-based and does not include every private school in the country — only those that participate in the federal survey. If a private school does not appear in GuardIQ, it has not been captured in the most recent NCES Private School Survey cycle.
GuardIQ for Colleges and Universities
GuardIQ searches the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard database for colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade schools. To look up a college, select the "College / University" tab in GuardIQ and type the institution's name. Use the city filter to narrow results if searching for a college in a specific city or state. The profile shows the campus location, total student enrollment, institution type, and the FBI-sourced area crime context for the state where the college is located. Students choosing between colleges, parents of college freshmen, and campus safety officers can use GuardIQ to benchmark the crime environment around any campus.

Data Sources Behind GuardIQ
GuardIQ uses three authoritative federal data sources. Crime data comes from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) / Crime Data Explorer (CDE) program, which aggregates reported crime statistics from law enforcement agencies across all 50 states. Public school data comes from the NCES Common Core of Data (CCD), with enrollment, location, grade level, and district data for over 100,000 public schools. Private school data comes from the NCES Private School Survey (PSS), covering over 35,000 private K-12 schools. College and university data comes from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, covering over 6,000 accredited postsecondary institutions. All are official U.S. government datasets.
GuardIQ and Alabama Schools
GuardIQ works for public schools, private schools, and colleges throughout Alabama. Public schools in Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort, Mobile, Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and across every Alabama county are searchable using the Public K-12 tab. Alabama colleges and universities including Auburn University, University of Alabama, University of South Alabama, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Troy University, Jacksonville State, Samford University, and others are searchable using the College / University tab. Crime context for all Alabama institutions is sourced from FBI Alabama UCR reporting.
